So many of us have reached peak engagement. Inboxes are flooded. Messages never stop. The ringing, pinging, and dinging has become a relentless way of life. And we’re realizing just how much this “always on” lifestyle has taken from us: our time, our attention, our focus, our cash. Our subscriptions are not just to Netflix anymore. They’re online and off, they’re all over the digital landscape, they’re also to people and groups and organizations, and they’re deep inside, too, to long-held beliefs, ideas, and notions that we “subscribe” to about ourselves.

Unsubscribing is about so much more than email. It’s about joy and meaning. So many of our sources of joy and meaning are already in our lives. They are just lost in the mayhem of the modern go, go, go. We can’t see them anymore. We can’t hear them in the noise. It’s time to weed out, clean up, and get rid of all that is standing in…
