An Assignment for Our Presidential Candidates: Apply for the Job

A 12-Step Process We’d All Love to See (or at least I would)

We all knew this election cycle would be exhausting. We just didn’t know we’d be fed up by — wow — the second week in July. As President Biden continues major damage control after that national disaster of a debate, now insisting he stay, and as Donald Trump, newly convicted felon, tries to distance himself from Project 2025, insisting he’s not a demonic psychopath, the race has reveled, yet again, that the way we elect our president no longer serves us well. The system is broken.

Here’s my call: No more road-trip campaigning. No more millions and millions raised and spent. No more nonsense. You don’t need to shake my hand. That is a fiction of a bygone and supremely gaslit era. And you don’t need to kiss babies or butter your corn with the locals or whatever you do at the Iowa State Fair. This is all completely outdated. None of it serves the interests of a modern, savvy, 21st century nation that desperately needs to get its shit together.

Instead, let’s run the election cycle beginning-to-end in three months. And let’s run it like a job interview process — where candidate run the same gauntlet employers (and digital capitalism) put us through. Here’s my humble proposal for how it…
